Drama at Dilli Haat

By: Padma

Location: Dilli Haat, New Delhi

When I was in college, I used to hang around places in Delhi with my friends. It was a group of girls who freaked out on fast food and cool stuff from Janpath. Dilli Haat was our favorite hang out place because we could virtually spend the whole day there without bothering about waiters waiting for us to leave or paying up for just loitering around. At Dilli Haat, with only a ticket for Rs. 10/- we can spend a day, shop around (if we have the money to :)) or just have a cola and snacks with friends. This one particular day, we were at Dilli Haat, and there was a demo of solar cooker. Since the demo was for free, we decided to check it out for the fun of it. We virtually mobbed the guy (we were all girls, and he, the only man) who was giving the demo. He was flattered by such female attention all of a sudden, but he was nervous. He started giving us the demo, and in his nervousness, actually broke the cooker! We couldn't help being amused at his plight. His supervisor came running, rebuking him. He could not even explain why it happened. All the while we watched the pandemonium. When he was through with his supervisor, he turned to us and meekly asked – would we be buying the cooker. That's when we sheepishly cut corners. He was stunned at our response and stood still. But as we retreated, I couldn't help feel sorry for him – he had been so nice to us all the while. Sometimes, I wish we had said sorry or something.
