There are 9 planets within Vedic astrology that affect our lives and personal horoscopes.

Sun in Vedic Astrology
One of its names is Aditya. It is also understood as the creator of all 'bhutas', which means objects and ingredients from which objects assume form. He is the ruler of all the planets. The sun is the ruler of the zodiac sign Leo. The sun represents the male or father principle and gives us vitality, the power of resistance and immunity. It is responsible for our physical appearnce. It gives us life force, the power of will, intellect, brilliance, prosperity, success in worldly affairs, wealth, cheerfulness, wisdom and fame.

Moon in Vedic Astrology
Moon is the presiding deity of the element water, and rules over the tides of the sea. Moon is the ruler of plants and the vegetable kingdom. The moon represents the mother of female principle. It rules peace of mind, comfort and fortune of an individual. The moon gives illumination, sense of purpose, intuitive nature, sensuality, fine arts and wealth. It makes us moody, emotional and sensitive.

Jupiter in Vedic Astrology
Jupiter in Sanskrit is known as 'Brihaspati'. He is the dwarf incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Brahma is the presiding deity of mental powers and the teacher of gods. He is the teacher of science of light and astronomy. Ruler of the Sun and Moon, he controls the movement of the planets. If favorable, this planet gives name, fame, success, honor and wealth. Jupiter is very important for a female because it determines her marriage and her relationship with her husband.

Rahu in Vedic Astrology
It is considered as the dragon's head and is also known as the north of Moon, the point where the Moon's orbit crosses the ecliptic. Rahu does not rule any zodiacal signs and is not characterized as male or female. Since it is related to Moon as its north node, it reflects the basic bipolarity of energy within the cosmos and individual.

Mercury in Vedic Astrology
Mercury is the son of the Moon by his wife Rohini. Mercury is sexless and neutral. It is a cold and moist planet. It is adaptable to the placement in a sign and house. Because it is nearest to the Sun, it is restless. It rules education, writers, artists, teachers, traders and businessmen. Mercury rules intelligence, speech, self-confidence, humor, wit and mathematics.

Venus in Vedic Astrology
Venus is known as Shukra in Hindu mythology. He is the son of great astrologer Bhrigu. He is an embodiment of love, a benefic planet and governs the refined attributes, romance, beauty, luxuries, wealth, arts, season of spring, rains and the bed-room. When rightly aspected, Venus is strong and it brings wealth, comfort and attraction to the opposite sex in the early part of life.

Ketu in Vedic Astrology
Ketu is known as the dragon's tail, which gives birth to comets and meteors and is known as the descending or the south node of the Moon. Ketu bestows wisdom, powers of discrimination and spiritual knowledge. It also bestows worldly desires and ambitions. Ketu can be destructive if inauspiciously positioned in the horoscopes.

Saturn in Vedic Astrology
In Sanskrit he is called 'Shani', a slow mover. He takes about two and a half years or so to pass through each constellation of the zodiac signs. Saturn destroys the house it occupies. When well placed it gives its natives wisdom, fame, ability to lead, authority, long life and awareness of right and wrong. When ill-positioned it brings miseries, sorrow, delay, obstruction, disappointment and difficulties. Saturnine natives are defensive, nervous and secretive.

Mars in Vedic Astrology
Mars is personified as the god of war. Mars makes its natives short-tempered, argumentative and soldiers. It bestows great technical and mechanical abilities. He is fond of law and order and arrangement. Mars gives energy, determination and a strong sense of purpose.

As each of the main seven planets is related to a day of the week, it is appropriate to chant the mantras of the planets.

Sunday - Sun
Moday - Moon
Tuesday - Mars
Wednesday - Mercury
Thursday - Jupiter
Friday - Venus
Saturday - Saturn
